Juices vs Smoothies
When does a juice become a smoothie?
Well it may not really matter much - you can call the drinks you like whatever you like - but there is a difference. The difference is all about how you make it. Put simply a juice is made in a special juice extractor or citrus press and a smoothie is made in a blender. Because they are made differently they feel different in the mouth, they look different and they act on your body in different ways.
A juice is a juice - a smoothie is something else..
With a juice - you get just that - the juice and only the juice, from the fruit (or vegetable) as it is pushed through the extractor or press. The fibre and pulp from the fruit is left behind. A smoothie is the whole fruit including the fibre blended together .
There are benefits to the body in drinking both and both taste equally delicious for different reasons. Juices deliver nutrients at top speed. Your body will absorb all the anti-aging nutrients present in the fruit you juice with maximum efficiency since it doesn’t have to break down and digest the bulkier food stuffs. This lack of fibre means that the nutrients can be absorbed in minutes rather than hours.
The energy hit that comes from juice…
So juices offer you a sure-fire way of getting the most out of the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, cleansing elements and other anti-aging goodness from a fruit or vegetable. After drinking a fruit juice you’ll feel a burst of energy and vitality almost immediately. Do this daily and you provide your body with a high dose of naturally derived nutrients that boost your health and provide long lasting anti-aging protection for your skin and body.
Smoothies - a meal in a glass…
What you get from smoothies is a good supply of fibre - an essential nutrient in itself. Fibre helps to keep your system moving and provides the essential ‘good’ bacteria that you need in the gut. Because of the higher fibre content, smoothies take longer to digest - so you won’t get that instant ‘hit’ of energy and vitality. What you will get is a sustained release of anti-aging nutrients over time. A single smoothie can be a meal in itself - breakfast or a light lunch. Depending on the ingredients a smoothie can keep you going until the next meal without hunger pangs.
Smoothies are versatile too. Add yoghurt to the smoothie mix and you have a protein filled delicious creamy drink that is sustaining and nutritious. Add frozen fruit, ice and sparkling water and you get a long drink for a hot day - a ‘quencher’
It doesn’t have to be one or the other - enjoy both…
So the answer to the smoothie or juice question is easy - you don’t need to choose. You can have both depending on your mood and the type of day you’re having. Both juices and smoothies are an essential and delicious part of your anti-aging routine.
